Barcelona

by col_hall6 - last update: May 23, 2006

It was a privilege Senor Gaudi

La Sagrada Familia
Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, is one of the most exciting, vibrant cities I have ever visited. History, beautiful art, wonderful architecture, The Mediterranean, Great food and nice people, what more could you ask for.

My stay lasted for 3 days and as I travelled back to chilly England, Barcelona had already fixed itself into my list of all time favourite cities. San Francisco and Sydney please make some room for Barcelona.

Casa Mila (La Pedrera)

Where to go?

The decision to go was made because:
1) I needed a break from work (who doesn't).
2) I was tired of the cold, wet UK winter (who isn't).

I also didn't fancy flying half way across the world for warmer climates, not this time anyway.

And so it was Southern Europe, but not just for the mediterranean or beaches. I wanted something of everything - culture, walking tours, views, food, nightlife etc.

Decision = Barcelona

Manzana de la Discordia

What to do? What to see?

The plan for the 3 days was to split Barcelona into 3 areas to see each day.

Day 1 - Barri Gotic, to include a walk around the wonderful medieval streets, La Ramblas, Picasso's museum, Palau Guell and the Parc de la Ciutadella.

Day 2 - The mountains, to include Tibidado, Parc Guell and Montjuic.

Day 3 - L'Example to include La Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila and Manzana de la Discordia.
