Menara Telecommunications Tower: Views On KL
  • Tip Rating:
  • Kuala Lumpur Menara Telecommunications Tower
  • Taken from Jalan Bukit Bintang

  • If you wan to have good views over KL climb the Menara tower (with 421m the 4th highest telcom tower in the world). You go up 275 m and you can either walk around and enjoy the views or drink a Martini at the restaurant upstairs.

When it's getting dark you can go up again with the same ticket and watch the sunset fall over KL. Beautiful.

There are also good views on the Petronas Towers from here.

    Things To Do: Masjid Jamek
  • Tip Rating:
  • Masjid Jamek or Friday Mosque was built in 1907 and is the most beautiful mosque of KL. It is located at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers (that's where KL got its name from: "confluence of muddy rivers").

Directions: Best seen from the bridge @ Lebuh Pasar Besar. But you can also visit th emosque and see it from inside. Get off at Masjid Jamek STAR Station or Masjid Jamek Putra LRT Station.

Petronas Twin Towers: Petronas Twin Towers - Part I
  • Tip Rating:
  • You can't miss this one, as it's dominating the skyline of KL. And it's always impressive: when you look at it from the edge of KL it shows how much taller it is than the rest (and there are a LOT other skyscrapers in KL), and when you approach the building and enjoy the perfection of forms and symbolicism and the grandeur of it.

This US$ 1,9 billion project is now, with its 451.9 m and completed in 1998, the tallest twin tower in the world. It consists of 88 stories (the number 88 symbolises prosperity in Chinese geomancy) and the floor is based on the eight-sided star that is typical of Islamic art.

There are a lot of companies inside the buildings, but also a mall (Suria KLCC). And you can go up! (see other tips)

  • You can also go up the towers. Unfortunately you can't go all the way up, but you can go to the skybridge at the 42nd floor. A great experience. And... it's free.

    Things To Do: KL Sation
  • Tip Rating:
  • Kuala Lumpur - west side of the station

  • This magnificent building was built in 1911 by the British architect AB Hubbock.

On the west side is a pedestrian tunnel across Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin. Here you can see the MRA Building. Walk north and turn left toward the lake gardens. You see the national mosque here.
