The collesseum is an amazing building, I loved it here and its a huge suprise when you arrive at how big it actually is!
Work was started here in 72AD and took 8 years to build, 70,000 slaves carried the stones all the way from Tivoli to Rome to build it!

The Vatican was not what I expected at all, I expected a real tranquil religious place, but as I should have know, it was the complete opposite. The whole place is stacked with Greek Mythology statues and pictures - apparantley the popes hobby?
The Sistine Chapel, is so full of tourists you cannot move, I was one of them, but respect people please! There are signs everywhere and a tannoy voice asking you please do not take photos inside-but people still were, and I think this is a little disrespectful.
St.Peters is beautiful, it is so big and the building is amazing.
The Vatican Gardens are also very pretty.
But prepare yourself for the massive queues that you will face to get in.

Quirinal Hill: Via de Quirinale

Along the Via del Quirinale you will find two churches, both were closed while we were here, but I would love to go back and visit the church of Sant'Andrea al Quirinale....it is supposedly one of Bernini's masterpieces.
On the four corners at the end of the road you will find four beautiful fountains built in the late 16th century.

Quirinal Hill: Piazza de Quirinale

The Piazza is set just in front of the actual Quirinale building.
The obelisk was actually moved to the piazza from the Mauselo di Augusto.
The statues are of Dioscuri,Pollux and Castor and are copies of the Greek originals.

The Spanish steps are a well known meeting place for foreigners, we visited during the day and at night and they were packed full of people both times!
There is a church at the top of the steps, for some unknown reason when we visited it was closed and we couldnt go in, also the front is being restored....so it wasnt much to look at!! Another place to revisit on our next trip!

The Arch Of Constantine stands proudly alongside the Colloseum, on this trip there were actually bars around it to protect it (im sure it was not like this in 97??).
The arch was built to honour Constantine with his victory over Maxentius in AD312.

The Trevi Fountain is just too beautiful for both words and pictures....you just have to see it to believe it!
The fountain is Baroque in style and was designed by Nicola Salvi during 1732-its in amazing condition for its age!
The fountain shows Neptunes chariot led by tritons with sea horses, representing the moods of the sea.
Remember to throw a coin with your right hand over your left shoulder into the fountain to ensure that you return!
We visited both during the day and after dark, both times it was busy, both times it was beautiful.

We covered so many miles in Rome because I refused to use the metro! The streets are so pretty and even though you must be really careful crossing the roads here, its worth the sweat and feet ache later! Its a beautiful city and deserves to be explored by foot!

This church was built in the 5th century and added to during the 18th century. It is one of Romes patriarchal churches.
Be sure to see the mosaics that abound in the nave and aisles.
