Funny that I have listed Table Mountain as the first things to do tip! It was, in fact the last thing that we saw on the morning we drove out of Cape Town! Why? I hear you say, well Table Mountain is quite often covered by the famous "Table Cloth", this means that this piece of cloud covers the top of the table and so you cant see anything! Often the cable car up is closed due to strong winds, so you have to time your trip exactly right!
The views from the top are nothing short of spectacular - you can look down the peninula, see the Atlantic and Indian oceans in one go! Look all over the city at the skyscrapers, harbour, residential areas, parks etc etc......the views are amazing it is well worth the trip up there.
Getting up there- As I said you can take a cable car which is what the majority of people do, the cablecars revolve so no need to try and squeeze yourself into the perfect position! My friend actually climbed Table Mountain! He is a strong, fit man let me tell you! But this is also a popular thing to do for the more fitter among us! Yep - I took the cable car!

Beaches: Lagoon

Driving from the city to Blouberstrand we came upon this lagoon. They had just finished developing a brand new apartment complex there, and we walked on the white sandy beach, dipped our toes in the clear waters and then sat outside of a beautiful cafe and drank a coffee.

This is one of the nicer suburbs of Cape Town. Located north of the city centre, Bloubergstrand is it's own little town and offers not only cafes and shops, but a fabulous beach with world famous views back across to the city and Table Mountain.
We enjoyed a few hours in Bloubergstrand, we ate lunch out here, strolled along the beach and sat watching the kitesurfers - which seems like a very popular past time here! I did attempt to dip my feet in the water here too! Bear in mind that the waters here are straight from the Antarctic and are freezing!!!!!!!!!!1

Table Mountain: Bush Fires on Table Mountain

We drove back from Bloubergstrand and into the city, we drove past the bautiful Gardens suburb and up towards Table Mountain. We went there with all intentions of trying to get up Table Mountain.
Turns out, we arrived just in time to see all the action, the road was closed just after we arrived at the car park, there was a bush fire on the mountain. Soon enough, fire engines were roaring into the car park, helicopters whizzed above dropping water, crowds gathered and we soon saw some of the fires so close on trees.
I have since been told that this happens with regularity, so if you plan to walk in the forest - do so with care.

Both Clifton and Camps Bay are just a short drive south of Cape Town. Clifton is known as the "Rich and Famous" area. It is very beautiful, there are cafes and some small shops, plenty of nice walks and the small beach where if you wanted you could swim. The views on the drive down here are so very nice, we were stopping all the time to take piccies of the coastline and the scenery!

Things To Do: Houts Bay

Hout Bay is another small bay just along the peninsular. Houts Bay was much more residential than Camps Bay, it was a lot quieter and there was not as much going on, we stopped and enjoyed a short walk nonetheless.

The Peninsula drive down to the Cape of Good Hope is a magical one. At some points you have both the Indian and the Atlantic ocean on either side of you! We stopped lots of times throughout the day, for lunch, for photo stops and other times just to take in the scenery.
On this drive you will see plenty of stunning scenery, lots of wildlife (hopefully) and many other tourists!
Just remember that once you are in the national park, there is nowhere to get petrol - fill up before you leave Cape Town!

We were here in December and truly thought that we had missed the whales, which was a crying shame because at that time I had never seen a whale before.
Anyway, at one of the small roundabouts in the park, I see a sign that says whale spotting, so we take that turning, park up, and walk up to the look out. Would you believe it, there are another couple up there, and all of a sudden they shout that they have spotted a whale, they too were totally shocked!
We were high up at this lookout, but I was so excited and couldnt believe my eyes! My piccies here do not do these whales justice at all, my camera at that time was basic and didn't have a good zoom - but I saw them with my own eyes which was the main thing.

Cape Point: Cape of Good Hope

This is of course a very busy, very touristed area - but for good reason! Here you can hike up to the lighthouse and see stunning views, see both the Indian and Atlantic Oceans - this isn't where they really meet despite what the signs and guides tell you!
Of course, as well as exploring the old lighthouse, reading all of the history and taking in all of views, you can see the Cape Point.

Things To Do: Wildlife out on the Cape!

We saw some beautiful wildlife out here! To be honest I never expected to see these animals so close to the city, whenever I had been on safari before it was always so far away from populated areas.
But here we were driving on the peninsula, seeing Ostrich, Baboons (?!?) and a rock hyrax who chased us for our cheese sarnies!
