  • The hostel is a big building however with a small entrance so I just walked along and I ended almost up in another and more shady hostel.
The building is old, worn, but equipped with new beds, douches. The hostel looks a bit weird because of it's elderness, darkness inside, the elevator shaft in old movie style, but it's basically clean. In the big building also some private appartments are housed as well.
At arrival you get your room key, a padlock for a locker in the room itself, a code to get on the third floor and a number to burr on the side of your bed. Because the locker is quite small for a backpack you can leave your backpack at reception.
My room had 10 beds. The matress was good. I slept well.
The bar and room for breakfast is located on the third floor. Maybe pitty for those sleeping on another level. Drinks in the bar are only served form 19.00h. But it's a place to meet other travellers. Beer 25 CZK and you can get the Oetker Ristorante pizza's warmed up for you. (Forgot to wach the price).
Breakfast is goog: You got the corn flake stuff, good little breads to be stuffed with butter, marmelade, real cheese and sausage and/or other meat. Yoghurt don't to be forget.

I booked this one via the internet via http://www.hostelbooking.com/ without any additional cost.

Unique Qualities: Cheap for all the basics you get! I stayed here 2 days befire I moved to another hostel (just for trying out) "U Melounu" which was a bit more expensive, but in younger building and more comfortable (however located a bit more away from the city). See other review.

    2 nights 540 CZK / 11,70 GBP / 16,3 EUR.

100 CZK to give at arrival and returned at departure.

  • U Melounu is small hostel which is a further from the town center (10 min walk to Wencelas Square; 15 to Old Town square).
At first glimp I was wondering where I had to enter, and yes it is the very little door you have to enter.
I slept in a room with 6 beds. Pitty that there was only 1 key for the room. Room is clean and you don't have to bring your own towel, you get a big one. The lockers seemed to be new and a bit bigger that the usual ones. I dared to put it in my backpack.
Luggage room is also available. Entrance via the garden.

Yes the hostel has a garden with must be fun in summer time and for me now end of february nice to see the snow.

The breakfast room is located in the cellar and is a bit small. Breakfast was a bit less than in the Travellers hostel. No real cheese and no meat (except for the pate/pasty).

    Friendly recptionistes and 24hr open.

Unique Qualities: Comfortable clean rooms for very reasonable price.

    2 nights 600 CZK - 18,93 EUR.

100 CZK to make use of lockers which you got back when you return the key.

    Address: Ke Karlovu 7/457, 120 00 Prague 2
Directions: When at the South side of the Wencelas Square (at the muzeum) take the big road on the right (Mezibranska) which becomes furtheron Solkolska. On the right take the little road Na bojiste which ends up in Ke Karlova. Take this left and follow about 300m.
