The old Capital of Lithuania Maybe not much people know that the small Trakai was once the Capital town of Lithuania, anyway what's most interesting now is that this small peninsula, and small islands are a wonderful place to visit, just few kilometres from the new capital of Lithuania, Vilnius.
It's great to go here on summer sunny days, you can go swimming, sailing, rowing, footing, or just hanging around among the lake, the green and the souvenir shops arond the shoreline. There's plenty of open-air activities to do here in Trakai, and of course there is also the famous castle, but it has been rebuilt in great part quite recently, so it's not much interesting to visit, but it's nice to see it in the middle of the lake! ;-) |

pure1942 Tue Sep 16, 2008 22:01 UTC Hey Carlos, nice page on Trakai.Interesting to hear about the small Karaite Turkish community in Trakai. Visiting myself in October. Thanks for the tips and pics...Brian | b1bob Sun Oct 2, 2005 20:30 UTC Nice job! Richmond is like Trakai in that it was once a national capital (the Confederate States of America) little known by outsiders. | diocletianvs Thu Apr 28, 2005 10:31 UTC Great page about an interesting Off the beaten path place.
