Olomouc, the town of fountains and churches

by Carletto76 - last update: Mar 8, 2004

I've been to Olomouc in summer 2003, coming from Poland and on the way to Praha. I knew not many things about this university town in eastern Moravia, but I had a good "sensation", I thought it was a nice place to visit, and that sensation was right!
Olomouc is really a pleasant town, mostly restored in its beautiful old buildings... I spent there just a day, a sunny sunday of August, with almost no-one walking on the streets... I was the master of the town! ;-)
Among cobblestone streets and squares of Olomouc you will find many fountains and many churches, along with the theology university. It's a very quiet town, but during Winter it's populated by mostly students, so it has an enjoying young nightlife too.

Pros:"Old town very well preserved and restored"
Cons:"In august it's almost deserted!"
In A Nutshell:"A small Prague, with no tourists!"

You describe another fascinating location, full of historic and interesting places to visit. It must be a custom to have large squares in The Czech Republi, do they make use of them at all?

What a delightful town with many interesting architectual features. Loving myths, I would adore all the fountains named after the classical gods. Outstanding introduction and great photos.
