Belarus most famous landmark The Mir Castle Complex (Мiрскi Замак) is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it's probably the most photographed and famous landmark in this rather unknown country. I've been there on my first day in Belarus, going there by car with friends. It was a freezy day at the end of April, with a grey sky and a very strong wind. So the climate was not the best to enjoy the idilliac scenery of the castle by the little lake and the small town of Mir there around. I don't know it's worth the listing among UNESCO heritage sites, since the castle has been almost totally rebuilt and it's still under rebuilding works. In my opinion there are more interesting places in Belarus, and more beautiful and authentic too, but Mir castle has become a symbol of present Belarus and surely it's a nice day trip from Minsk or Hrodna or Brest. |

Raimix Mon Dec 10, 2007 09:54 UTC Great page about Mir :) Would like to visit these of the beaten places you listed here :) That gothic church looks very nice. | calcaf38 Sun Nov 11, 2007 15:30 UTC Wonderful page, Carlo. Looks so cold, but interesting. Thank you for sharing. The Zhirovichi looks a little like the old cathedral in Quito, Ecuador!! |
