Getting TO/AROUND: Cristoforo Colombo airport (GOA) is very close to the city, and really among the water! Landing in Genova is really exciting, the planes fly from Portofino to the airport along the whole lengh of Genova, with a terrific view if you seat on the right side of the plane!
The airport is connected to the city centre by bus (number 100) or taxis. There are no train stations right there, just a couple not so close and not in a great zone.
There are regular flights to/from London (BA, RyanAir), Paris (AirFrance), Munich (AirDolomiti/Lufthansa) and domestic flights to/from Rome, Milan, Naples, Catania and Palermo.
To get there by car take the motorway at Genova Ovest and the follow the direction "Ventimiglia". After few minutes you will reach the exit "Genova Aeroporto".

    Transportation: Going around...

Getting TO/AROUND: The best way to go around Genova is to WALK, no other choices! Most of the old town is a pedestrian only zone, while the rest of the town is usually crowded with cars and scooters, and it's almost impossible to find a free parking (almost all the city centre is reserved to inhabitants for parking during the daytime), while public parkings are quite expensive.
There are many buses riding along the principal streets of Genova, the ticket costs 1 euro for 90 minutes and you can use it also for the Underground (M signs) and some local trains.

Getting TO/AROUND: In Genova you always have to go up and down... but to get the best view you should climb really steep hills... but there's a much comfortable method to do it: taking public elevators and/or cable cars!
There are 3 cable cars and quite a lot of elevators going up the hills. The ticket is the same of the buses and subway.

    Transportation: Genova by Train

    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: In Genova there are 2 main train stations: Brignole and Piazza Principe (P.P.). The two stations are connected by a huge railway tunnel.
Trains coming from central and southern Italy will surely stop in Brignole, and maybe in Principe too, while trains coming from France or northern Italy will surely stop in Principe and maybe in Brignole too!

in Brignole there are many bus stops, and the station itself is in the heart of the modern city, and closer to the fair and shopping districts
    .
Principe is in the old part of Genova, close to the harbour and is connected to the Aquarium and Old Harbour zone by the subway. It's closer to the Youth Hostel too.

There are several local trains which connect the 2 stations and the other smaller stations from Genova Nervi to Genova Voltri. Usually there is a train every 15 minutes.

    Transportation: Genova underground!

    Category: Subway/Metro
Getting TO/AROUND: Few people know it, but in Genova there is a subway too, and it's one of the shortest in the World, maybe the shortest one!
    There are 5 stations:
    - Brin: in the district of Rivarolo, outskirts of town
    - Di Negro: in front of the ferry harbour, close to the Lighthouse
    - Principe: close to the railway station and Palazzo del Principe
    - Darsena: close to Via Pre, Via del Campo and the new Darsena buildings (Muse del Mare ans so on...)
    - San Giorgio: in front of Palazzo San Giorgio, few metres from the Aquarium and the Old Harbour zone

The tickets are the same as the bus ones; the subway stations are indicated by orange signs with an M.

You will probably never take it, but if you want you can! ;-)

Your pictures and page on Genova are amazing. I wish it was in my travel plans for when I come to Italy in May/June. The closest I'll make it is Cinque Terre, so I guess no tour of Genova for me. Oh well. I'll just add Genova to my travel wish list!

Outstanding photos/detail - I favor your travelogues of night in Genova. Will return here often and hope to see it soon.
