La Nouvelle Vague: A new, "bohemičn" place in Genova!

Nightlife Spot: La Nouvelle Vague
This is really a GREAT place, just opened in July 2004 in the very heart of Genova, in a small vicolo crossing Via San Lorenzo. It's the first "eno-library" in Genova: you can read and buy books as well as drinking wine, coffee, beer, cocktails... or do the both things, like reading a book while drinking a good glass of Italian wine! One of the owners is a friend of mine, really a great guy, and he and his "colleague" did really a gread job, the atmosphere is fantastic, down underground in an old cellar, with columns and bricks on the walls. There is a HUGE selection of wines, of any type and price; unfortunately there is no kitchen, but there are some cold dishes too, so it's better to go there after dinner, and you will find it open till 1pm during workdays, and to 2pm on weekends. Go there while you are in Genova, and you won't be disappointed!

Nightlife Spot: Molly Malone's Tavern
Molly Malone's Tavern is a typical Irish pub in the Pegli suburb of Genova. You can choose among 6 draught beers of the Guinness family and eat some good fish dishes, or just some sandwiches. The pub is really very nice and it's really a good choice to spend the night with a good beer! ;-)

Nightlife Spot: Irish Pub
It's called the Irish Pub, but it's not so Irish to be honest... but that doesn't meen it's not a good place! If you want to drink the best international beers in Genova, expecially Belgian ones, you have to come here! And you'll find a lot of good food too, from sandwiches, to salads, hamburgers, würstels, along with good spirits and liquors! Everything in a friendly and quiet atmosphere... I can say the Irish Pub is my second home! ;-)

Nightlife Spot: La Polena
I spent so many nights eating and drinking at La Polena, probably all my high school years every saturday night, but also now that I'm older I keep on coming here, among friends, a safe harbour for any night of the year! La Polena closed at the beginning of the year 2006, but fortunately they reopened, in a new, very beautiful, location few months later, so you can come back there again and enjoy the simple food, good beer, friendly atmosphere and also air conditioning! :) The owners are very nice people, the beers are good as well as the sandwiches, piadines or pastas, and it's one of the cheapest place to have dinner, at any hour (open every day till 3am).

I Quattro Canti is really a nice, English-style, pub locaded in the heart of the old town, few metres down from Via Garibaldi, in the Maddalena district. You can find there Scottish and Irish beers as long as any kind of sandwiches. The place is quite small and very picturesque, with very good music in the background!

Teatro Carlo Felice: Going to the Opera

Nightlife Spot: Teatro Carlo Felice
It is Genova most important and biggest theatre, sited in Piazza de Ferrari. It was first built at the beginning of the 19th century, but it was hardly bombed during WWII and remained in ruined conditions until 1987. Now it has regained the old aspect on the outside, while inside it's a modern theatre, very particular with its "ligurian-style" house facades painted walls with small terraces where people can sit and watch the shows. Terrific acoustics for every kind of classic and sometimes also pop/rock music.

These are fantastic tips. I hope to visit Genoa soon as well. Ciao e grazie ancora! | Laurel914 Wed Mar 26, 2008 21:49 UTC Your pictures and page on Genova are amazing. I wish it was in my travel plans for when I come to Italy in May/June. The closest I'll make it is Cinque Terre, so I guess no tour of Genova for me. Oh well. I'll just add Genova to my travel wish list! | icunme Mon Dec 10, 2007 19:40 UTC Outstanding photos/detail - I favor your travelogues of night in Genova. Will return here often and hope to see it soon. |
