Genoa Youth Hostel: The cheapest way to sleep in Genova

  • The hostel in Genoa is very far from the centre, up on the hill above the town. It will take you about 30/40 mins from the 2 railway stations to get there with the bus. Don't even try to go there on foot, unless you are Reinhold Messner! ;-)
It's an official hostel, so you need the IYHF card in order to sleep there.
The hostel staff speak English but, IMHO, is not so friendly, there is a curfew at 1am, and you MUST leave the room at 9am also if you stay there for more nights. You can go back to the room after 3.30pm.
There are lockers outside the rooms, but you have to use your own lock, or buy one.

My opinion: go there only on really budget travel, otherwise avoid it, the cons are more than the pros.

Unique Qualities: 213 beds 8 beds per room (male and female not together, we are puritans!) with showers and toilets on the same floor
4 beds per room with bathroom facilities for families and group leaders.
Bar with cold and hot dishes.
    Great view of the town.
    No physical barriers.

Hotel Assarotti: Good B&B/Hotel   Check Rates

  • Hotel Assarotti calls it now as a "Bed & Breakfast" Hotel, and I think it's a good choice to explore Genova at reasonable prices with a "homebase" in the centre of this town.
I never slept there, since I live in Genoa, but I know it since it's very close to where I live!
It's easy to reach from both the train stations, few minutes away from Piazza Corvetto, Via Roma and the Old Town. The Hotel is quite small, so I fear it won't be easy to find a room during this year of culture 2004, but you can try! ;-)

Albergo Viale Sauli Genoa: Good Hotel in the centre   Check Rates

  • The Hotel Viale Sauli is located in the very centre of modern Genoa, 10 minutes of walk from the Brignole railway station and directly in the main shopping area of my hometown, in a quiet "almost" pedestrian zone. It has a garage too in the nearby, which is an important thing since in Genova it's very hard to park the car!
The prices are good, from 45 to 70 euros (per person) for a double, so I can really suggest this Hotel.

Top Hotel Astoria Genoa: Another good hotel in Genova's city centre   Check Rates

  • Hotel Astoria is located in the very centre of modern Genova, very close to the Brignole railway station (5/10 mins walking) and to the main shopping area of the town. It is in a very nice 19th century building, with liberty decorations in the inside. It was a 4 star hotel, decreased to 3 some years ago, but it's still a very good hotel for its category. All rooms are with bathroom, TV-sat, telephone and minibar. There is also a garage for the cars and a laudry service. Double rooms cost from 150 euro (per room).

Hotel Esperia: Good Hotel in Genova Nervi   Check Rates

  • If you want to rest in the quiet ad beautiful suburb of Nervi, the Hotel Esperia is surely a good choice! Some friends of mine went there and appreciated it a lot, so I think I can suggest it! ;-)
The prices are really good, considering that Nervi is usually one of the most expensive zones of Genova. The hotel is really few steps away from Nervi railway station, the wonderful park and the sea! It is a very quiet zone to rest, but also a good place to go around the Riviera, and the trains connect it to Genova's centre in less than 20 mins.
A double room costs about 110 euros per room.

Your pictures and page on Genova are amazing. I wish it was in my travel plans for when I come to Italy in May/June. The closest I'll make it is Cinque Terre, so I guess no tour of Genova for me. Oh well. I'll just add Genova to my travel wish list!

Outstanding photos/detail - I favor your travelogues of night in Genova. Will return here often and hope to see it soon.
