By the lake Geneva is a little bit like Stockholm in the sense that it depends on its fanoud Lake Geneva to accentuate its highly built landscape. So...it shimmers in the night as the lights from the building is reflected off the lake at night.
The only difference from Stockholm is the sheer volume money that passes through this city. The buildings on the south side all display "Private Bank" as part of their name and those on the north shore are casinos and hotels! |
Behind the opulence Just go behind the hotels and you will find decadent Geneva, streets upon streets of sex clubs and prostitues lining up the street in dead winter!
Many shops are closed (forever). But, there's hardly anything going on in Europe's smaller cities around Christmas and New Year anyway. |
Independent spirit Its people fiercely independent (perhaps due to their wealth, to safeguard it more likely-I'm just being a little biased here), they broke away from the Pope and provided a safe haven for Protestants during the Reformation.
Still fiercely and proudly independent, Geneva considers herself independent within the Swiss Confederation (like all Swiss cantons anyway) to the extent that she styles herself the Republic and Canton of Gevena, the word "republic" is stressed here. |
