I have stayed here twice, both times during very tense situations in the streets, curfew and the like. The hotel is located a bit back from the main street and solidly built with a double exit back yard entrance, it feels safe and sound in times of trouble.
The hotel offers several categories rooms, all of them with heavy draperies and rather dark interiors, air con, somewhat damp and muggy (this is Terai), and I wonder why they need the heavy floor carpets...
But I am ready to come here again!
Unique Qualities: Manager Arjun Basnet is a freindly chap.
Nice roof top restaurant - very basic, but the food was good. Good tandoori varieties, cold beer. From the roof top you can also make phone call via Indian GSM providers across the border.
The hotel has the normal set up with communicatins in the Terai - nothing fast, but fairly reliable electronic communications.
Just a couple of blocks away from the main street where the action of the East-West Mahendra Highway is, and just near the hotel is a big food market. No tourists here!
Note that Birtamod as a city is immensely unhygienic; be careful with what and where you eat, malarial mosquitos and various water-borne diseases and food contamination.
