"Rasuwa District" Rasuwa by Saagar

Rasuwa District is due north of kathmandu, right on the Tibetan border. It is mostly known for its national park and trekking area Langtang National Park. See my Langtang National Park VT pages.

The district has a dramatic landscape, and it is among the least developed of the districts in Nepal, despite trade with Tibet, lots of tourists passing through etc. There is a plan to build a road from Syabrubensi to Kodar over the Rasuwa Gardhi border crossing. This would relieve the Kodari crossing point of some of its traffic and perhaps give some more economic opportunities in Rasuwa as well. However, the mainstay agriculture suffers from lack of land, high altitude and distant markets, so unless trade and tourism goes more equitable, the poor people, mostly Tamangs of Rasuwa will probably remain locked in poverty.
