Kurdistan, Iraq - An Unforgetable Visit

by Aopaq - last update: Jun 16, 2007

Entering Kurdistan, Iraq

The border crossing at Habur
My entry to Northern Iraq was via Turkey at the border crossing of Habur. My travels took me overland from Damascus, Syria into SE Turkey at Nusaybin and then to Iraq.

Dohuk - A Friendly City

I spent most of my time based out of Dohuk which is where I met a number of very friendly people who exposed me to a cultural perspective of Kurdistan Iraq that was most interesting and very appreciated.

Amedya - Home of my Kurdish "Family"

My brief trip into the small mountain village of Amedya exposed me to the reknowned warmth and hospitality that characterize the Kurdish people. My experience in Amedya is the reason for this entire entry.....I want others to know that the Kurdish Iraqi people are not at all like the terrorists portrayed on CNN and other news agencies.

man, what took you to the ME??? , sooo odd that a person from the North travels so much due to expenses. What took you to Central Asia, for someone that lives in Arviat you do better than most ;) jz

Been reading up a lot about this region recently...it sounds a fascinating place to visit, especially Dohuk. Hope you will write more about your trip one day... ;@P
