My New Ride, as of August/2009

Staying close to home for a while

Broke my left leg skiing in Fernie, B.C last January and spent nearly 5 months on crutches...and in the nearly frozen north here, that means negotiating ice. Made it through winter without further damage, though, and in May 2010 sold one motorcycle because it was bugging me that I had 2 I couldn't ride. I kept the cushy BMW I purchsed on a whim in August of '09 and sold the Yamaha, which had earned legendary status since my 2006 Ebay purchase that had me hitchhiking south of the border to go pick it up. Numerous rides, to the west coast a few times, Las Vegas, across Canada to Toronto, and various shorter excursions...and then, a memory, gone, traded for stupic currency during a time of emotional duress.
Ah the break, yes. It was a particularly bad one, resulting from a high-speed crash where my bindings didn't release. I spent 4 days in a narcotic fog before I had surgery, and during that time relived the crash hundreds of times courtesy of The Morphine Channel, the dream network I was plugged into.
Although I had been skiing for more than 40 years, I will never again step into a ski boot. The thought gives me nausea.
I will forever have a reminder of the incident, presumably every time I go through an airport scanner. A broken tibia, fibula, and a spiral fracture required surgery to place a bunch of hardware along the breaks to allow them to heal properly.

Mostly work, though

Newest creation, and it has a story. The inner yellow gold band belonged to the groom's grandmother, and he wanted it incorporated in a design for his fiancee. Rather than melt it and re-shape it, I maintained it's integrity by sandwiching it between two layers of white gold, effectively forming a setting for a Ceylon Blue Sapphire that they had chosen from my collection.
So fresh, the customer hasn't even seen it yet.
