I meant to stay a night or two on each of the three Aran islands. I started with the smallest, Inis Oirr, but I never got to the other two! I ended up staying the better part of a week in this tiny place and absolutely loving it. |
Knit one, pearl two...now I know what that means! Part of the reason for my extended stay was an advertisement I saw on a message board in the hostel. Aran style knitting classes were being offered every morning. I have always loved crafts and decided I wanted to give it a try. I ended up learning a few different patterns, making a headband and a small sampler piece, and having a lot of fun with the locals. Most of them spoke some Gaelic and were amused when I spoke some to them - they liked my accent! |
