The Kids Are Alright: One more trendy Silverlake shop

The Kids Are Alright is a small boutique in Echo Park that sells nice clothes made by local designers. It ranges from skirts to pea coats to purses to shoes. The styles vary, but you can be pretty sure you won't see anyone else with the same outfit if you buy your clothes here. Definitely one of a kind stuff that is different but not too extreme.

Vice: Expensive but hip The Vice Store Review

Vice is this really funny magazine that originated in Montreal and is now based in New York. They have a few stores worldwide, and L.A. is lucky enough to have one. The magazine is sort of known for being politically incorrect and wayyyy cooler than you. So, it makes sense that their store is in an up and coming neighborhood, is full of overpriced clothes and the sales clerks are assholes. But to be honest, they do have some really cool clothes that you can't really find anywhere else. Just try and buy on sale cuz them rags is expensive!

What to buy: Nice men & women's clothes for when you want to look GOOD

What to pay: more than you should!

Address: 3938 Sunset Blvd in Silverlake

American Apparel: Sweatshop Free clothing

American Apparel is an L.A. based company that does not use sweatshops. They make basic clothing items - tank tops, t-shirts, sweatshirts/pants, underwear, casual dresses etc - and some specialty stuff like baby clothes and dog sweaters. Anyway, the store is a great place to buy basic clothing items in any number of different colors. This place is also great if you want a blank piece of clothing to silkscreen onto. They have men's clothes as well.

What to buy: basic stuff

What to pay: because the clothes are not made in sweatshops, the prices are a little bit higher than target or walmart. But consider it a small price to pay to support an ethical business.

Address: they have a few different stores
