"Millenium" Budapest by Hewer

I stayed in Budapest for three days, between December 31, 1999 and January 2, 2000. I went to Budapest for "the millienium".

Forgetting arguments that it wasn`t really the end of the millenium (purists argue the year after was the true end), I figured that New Year`s Eve 1999 was a big deal. I decided a few years earlier that I wanted to spend it in a place I hadn`t been to before but had always wanted to visit. After a long process, I chose Budapest!

Budapest (5pm, Dec. 31st, 1999)

The atmosphere on the streets of Budapest was buzzing all afternoon. There were stalls everywhere selling party gear and everybody was greeting each other and asking `Where are you from?`, `Are you here for the millenium?` etc.

There was a large camera crew moving through the center of the city filming people at random. They asked me something in Hungarian but I couldn`t answer.
