I flew into Lisbon from Moscow in the evening and I was due to leave the city by train the following night.
I wanted to make the most of my short stay. I found a room at the Pensao Resedencial Areeiro (25 Euros) . They had a 24-hour reception and the owner/manager was very helpful. We had to communicate in French, which was `number 3` for both of us) but we got by ;-)
I set out the next day to see what I could find. I must apologise in advance for the quality of the photos - I didn't have my digicam with me and all of these were taken with a disposable.... c'est la vie!
What can I say? I wish I`d allowed longer. I walked for hours and hours, around Rossio, along the Tagus, up to Castelo de Sao Jorge and ultimately to Santa Apolonia for my train to Madrid.
Lisbon makes a great first impression. You get a real sense of the history wandering around and the city lacks the glitzy , monotonous office blocks of some other capital cities in Western Europe. It seemed safe too. I hope to return someday.
