This temple is a nice surprise situated about ten minutes' walk from Karon Beach. The proper name for this temple is Wat Suwan Khiri Khet, but most people refer to it simply as Wat Karon. This is not a temple which is often frequented by tourists and you can enjoy the quiet here. It makes a peaceful contrast from the action, shopping and touts just down the road. Worth a visit if you are in Karon.

Karon is a great place to visit for the day if you are either stuck in Phuket Town or you want to get away from the chaos of Patong. There are are basically two long roads of shops, restaurants and bars and the numerous sois which run off them. One of them, Karon Road, follows the coast and has plenty of good restaurants and a nice stretch of beach. The other is Patak Road, which snakes inland, taking in all the beer bars, tailor shops and souvenir stores, as well as the local wat. Karon is a great little place and has most of what you'd find in Patong, only more spread out and low key. It's worth a trip.

For 700 baht, you can go for a parasail on the beach. It must be an amazing experience. I never did it myself because I wasn't insured for it (I know, I know, no sense of adventure). I was content to stay on terra firma. I watched people sign up for the parasail and they seemed pretty thorough. You don't have to book, except at sunset when it is busy (and 300 baht more expensive).

Everybody does at least one beach sunset in Phuket. Kata Beach has one of the best. You can either grab a beer, sit back and take it all in or go for a stroll - either way it's magic stuff. I liked the sunset in Kata because of Koh Pu, a little island off the coast. It adds a neat contrast to all the colours and hues in the sky. Otherwise, the beach is a bit quieter in Kata than Patong so it's a good spot to go to if you want to escape the noise.
