Cricket in KL

by Hewer - last update: Feb 15, 2006

Recreation Park, Petronas Complex, KL
I`ve only been to Kuala Lumpur a couple of times and I try to see a different part of the city each time.
Each time I`ve visited Malaysia it has been a stopover on the way to somewhere else.

My most recent trip was in 2003. At that time I stopped over from Japan so that I could watch the cricket World Cup semi-final between Australia and Sri Lanka (on TV). The staff at the Malaysian Cricket Board were very helpful!

Apart from the cricket, I didn't really enjoy it. I encountered hawkers and touts at night and scammers during the day. I had a near miss with some scam artists and spent most of my last day/night in police stations. You can read about that in my tips. Anyway, I should note that the scammers were not Malaysian, but from somewhere else (giving Malaysia a bad name!).

I will travel to KL in the future to give the city another chance though!

Many people in cyberspace have wandered across my little page here and it seems a few of them have been seriously fleeced. I don't know if these folks were ever caught or not. If anyone ever reads this and knows, let me know so I can pass it on :-)

As of June 2007 this scam is still going on. Someone tried it on me and then two days later I met another man that had the same experience the day after I did. Unfortunately, people will take advantage of you trying to be nice to people in KL.

Hi there Craig, sorry it happened to you and am glad you didn't fall for it. Well, they come in all shapes and sizes and age. I have a warning in my Homepage on this as well. Be careful when approached! Can be anywhere anytime.
