Jordan

by antistar - last update: Aug 7, 2007

Jordan is an incredible country, full of amazing sights, friendly people, and very few tourists. It's safe, good value, and you'll have places to yourself that if they were in Europe would be turned into Disneyland. It's adventurous without being all that difficult to manage. It's feels far away from everything, but is easily reached from Europe. It's definitely one of the best countries you can visit in the world.
Jerash, Jordan
Without doubt the top card in Jordan's pack is Petra. Quite possibly one of the seven wonders of the world, and a sight that should be on your list of places you must go before you die. But it has much more. Jordan, like its neighbour Israel, is crammed with Biblical and Roman history. The ancient city of Jerash is one of the best preserved Roman cities in the world, and also completely unmissable.

In addition there is the Dead Sea, one of the most incredible geographic features on the planet, and the lowest place on earth. There's the Kings Road, the famous old trading route that winds its way through the incredible Great Rift Valley. Then there's the crusader castle of Kerak, marking the furthest extremity of Christendom, and its mirror castle in Aljun, where Saladin built his bulwark against Christian expansion.
The Dead Sea, Jordan
Oh, and then there's Bethany, where Jesus was Christened, and Mt Nebo, where Moses first saw the Holy Land and where he ascended to heaven. And there's the great deserts, with their castles and the amazing Wadi Rum, where Lawrence of Arabia made his home during the Great Arab revolt. There's enough here to keep you busy, and to keep you coming back for more.

I would omit the last sentance, as i'm 100% certain that Jordan is very secure and a lot of precaution measures are taken to keep everybody safe.
