"Oppenheim" Oppenheim by antistar
Oppenheim Travel Guide: 9 reviews and 22 photos
Oppenheim is a pleasant little detour just south of Mainz, en route to Worms, that has plenty of calming, peaceful streets lined with half-timbered buildings barely touched by progress. It is quite a bit bigger than first impressions suggest, stretching back from the station far up the hillside. It also has a lot more to see than one might imagine. The main draw for the town, however, is the gigantic Katherinenkirche, tucked away deep within the town. You have to climb quite a way up from the station to see it, but the walk is worth it.
Unlike many other Rhein towns, Oppenheim is surprisingly unspoiled by mass tourism. Most of the visitors I came upon were German, and the streets were pleasantly empty of people. This could have been something to do with it being Easter Sunday, but I suspect that some of the ugly industry down on the banks may make this town look less than appealing from the boat. It makes it nicer for the rest of us, though, and if you have a few hours to spare on a sunny afternoon you could do far worse than to spend them here.

I saw this little beauty in the back streets of the city, and took a jealous picture. Reminded me of my old Alfa. more travel advice

Thanks for this Tim :-) I always only passed Oppenheim, but now I know there are many reasons to actually go and visit :-)) Katharinenkirche and the whole old town itself look wonderful :-)
Nice architecture in the town. Katharinenkirche is very impressive
