"Gateway to Dalmatia" Split by antistar
Split Travel Guide: 896 reviews and 2,358 photos
Once home to a Roman emperor, it is now home to a burgeoning tourist herd shipped in by dozens of EasyJets. The locals are, at once, both delighted at the prospect of tourist driven prosperity, and horrified at the surging prices and strained services. Despite this they remain some of the friendliest, most patient hosts I've encountered on my travels.
It's a stunning location: sitting on the edge of the Adriatiac and dramatically backed by the Dinaric Alps. It might be surrounded by some of the ugliest suburbs in Europe, but the city centre is a UNESCO protected treasure. Its west facing location on the sea also allows for some stunning Mediterranean sunsets, but not as impressive as those further south.
There's not a great deal to see or do. The old town can be traversed several times over in less than a day, but it makes for a pleasant hub for visiting the many smaller, and equally fascinating, towns along the coast and on the nearby islands. It also makes for an excellent stepping stone for visiting the rest of Dalmatian Croatia.

It is interesting to see how you connected Robert Adam and Peristil with the Neoclassical architectural movement - something that the tourist board of Split could use more. Well done page!
interesting architecture of the city. i would like to see it one day
