"Volklingen" Völklingen by antistar

Völklingen Travel Guide: 19 reviews and 72 photos

Volklingen is simply dwarfed by the enormity of the mammoth Hutte industrial complex. The small town was little more than a dormitory for people who worked at the giant industrial dinosaurs that surrounded it, and the now UNESCO protected Hutte was simply the biggest. If you arrive at the town's tiny train station, you'll be forgiven for thinking that the Hutte is Volklingen.

The vast rusting hulk of a former ironworks is a thing of bizarre beauty. For those with an eye for a photograph, and a heart that desires something different to the usual sugar sweet cuteness of traditional tourism, then the Hutte will provide you with a unique experience. There are other industrial sites in Germany, but I don't think you'll find one as immense and imposing as this.
