Tant Malie se winkel has been around for many years. On a Sunday afternoon the restaurant overflows with people from all over.

The kitchen is a fireplace outside under the trees. Potjiekos, braaivleis and pap will be on the menu.

If you don't want a full lunch take a walk through the shop where you can buy "bokkoms" ( fish-biltong), wonderful milk tart, freshly baked bread, koeksisters etc.

There are also pottery products and antiques.

Address: Just before you cross the dam from Brits side.
Directions: On the left hand side before you cross the bridge to go to the Dam.

To get across the dam you will go through a short tunnel. The view over the dam from her is quite beautiful. The entrance to the tunnel is also an interesting piece of work.

You can park your car before the bridge and walk onto the bridge for a better view. There is also a nice waterfall you can walk to.

There are quite a few craft shops.

This one was quite nice with a lot of typical African craftworks. Outside the shop were these lifesize giraffes, elephants etc made out of concrete.

Address: On the other side of the Welwitchia flea market

This is a picture of the old truck that has been standing outside this shop for years.
It is a landmark and you won't find anybody that has been to Hartbeespoort that doesn't know this truck.

You can take the cable car to the top of the mountain. It is not as impressive as Table mountain but still a nice quick ride up and a great view over the dam from the top.

Directions: There are signs to the cable way on the main road.

I wrote most of the info in the other tip but I really wanted to add this pic.

Outisde the shop there is an old wagon. The kids loved looking at this and couldn't imagine how people got along without cars and planes.

It is still difficult for me to imagine how a trip to Hartbeespoort, which takes me an hour from my home, might have taken them a day or more.
My mother then told them how they travelled with a wagon and oxen to go to church every 3 months. Apparently it was a whole week to get there and back.

Life must have been much slower in those days.

Address: Just before the dam wall from the Brits side

Jasmyn (Afrikaans for Jasmine) is a deli-like shop with fresh farm produce. There is a nice bookshop upstairs and a coffee shop. The architecture makes it very different. It is in the form of a large windmill.

The most fascinating is the artworks for sale in between the fruit and vegetables.

Directions: Pass the dam on the way to Pelindaba.

Lovely enchanted garden for children and the young at heart. A nice restaurant under the trees between goblins and fairies is great for a long lunch. Fairy products can be bought at the tiny little fairy shop. It is at the end the ambiance of forest and water that make you want to stay as long as possible.
