In 1847 Dias , en route to the east , encountered a ferocious storm here and eventually ended up at the Gouritz river more to the east coast of Africa.
Dias 's monument and replica of his "Karveel" can be seen at the Dias museum.
From the harbour you can take a boat to the island (full of seals and smelly).
Closeby is Hartenbos with great accomodation and swimming beaches. |

Do these excellent beaches have waves for surfing? Sounds like an interesting place with a balance of activities for both littler kids & us bigger kids. |
