You like to eat? You like to drink coffee? | State Street View Towards The Capitol Building |
The downtown area of Madison really is or seems to be created for the sole purpose of catering to the 40,000 college students and the occasional business traveler who verntures to Madison on some "exciting" business conference. State Street is packed with restaurants, coffee shop, restaurant, coffee shop, restaurant, liquor store, coffee shop, restaurant, restaurant, hair salon, restaurant, restaurant, coffee shop, coffee shop, clothing store, pub, coffee shop.........and the list goes on and on. There are TONS of sandwich shops, I cannot even tell you how sick to death I am of eating sandwiches and sub sandwiches! While the majority of the food we ate in Madison was excellent and very tasty I really got tired of eating....can you imagine? |
| | A tale of two lakes Madison has two main lakes one on each side of the town and the downtown area and college are in between these two lakes. One is lake Mendota (college side) and lake Menona (other side). We never ventured over to the Menona side so I don't have any exciting stories to tell you about the "other" lake in this town! |

| | Can anyone say Coffeehouse? I can...coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee...and that's about how many coffee shops there is a one mile radius on State Street in this coffee town. |

| Pros: | "Lots of great restaurant choices, good coffee & it's by the lake!!" | | Cons: | "Dirty streets due to litterbug college kids, crawling with college kids everywhere, not a real "exciting" place to visit." | | In A Nutshell: | "If you are going to a conference here you have a great choice of places to eat & nice walking trails along the lake!" |
