"The World's Greatest City" New York City by dcwizard

New York City Travel Guide: 19,521 reviews and 30,170 photos

All cities, big and small, have qualities that make them great: people, culture, architecture, cuisine, art. But of all the cities I've seen, only one offers all of the above and then some. I used to be intimidated by New York...it's just too big, too daunting, too much. You can never master this city, only adapt and adjust to it. This fact used to bother me, but I've learned to accept that this is what makes New York great. Whoever you are, wherever you come from, whatever you're seeking...you can find it here in New York.

Perfect Long Weekends

I took advantage of the long Presidents' Day weekend in February 2005 to enjoy "The Gates" -- the huge public art installation by Christo that was set up in Central Park for a few glorious winter weeks. (See more in my Gates travelogue) I also had time to catch a Broadway show and (of course) do a little shopping.

In September 2004 I visited New York with friends over Labor Day weekend to see the US Open tennis tournament, which was dominated by a group of wonderful Russian female players, and one Rodger Federer...the Swiss may just end up being the greatest player the game of tennis has ever seen. Besides the tennis, I had a chance to explore some of the museums, restaurants, and of course great shopping that this city has on offer.

I guess New York is the perfect excursion for a long weekend! My New York pages only offer a brief glimpse...I'm sure you'll have many adventures here to fill your own VT pages and travel journals!

New York has been witness to modern history...events which do not need to be recounted here. New York's greatness has made it a magnet for many visitors, Whatever draws you here, you can explore a bit of the city for a few hours or end up here for the rest of your life.
