Szentendre is a charming little town 19km north of Budapest on one of the branches of the Danube. It is close enough to Budapest and easy enough to get there, that it makes for an easy and fun day excursion from Budapest. You will find plenty of shops and art galleries, and they usually hold special exhibitions. During last year's Budapest Wine Festival, a special boat took passengers from the wine tasting site in Buda to another special wine event area in Szentendre. I hope they continue to do this each year!
I do not have specific suggestions for restaurants, cafes, or places to stay, since I've made just a few day trips there. But it is compact and easy to get around, so you will have no trouble finding them. A day at Szentendre is relaxing and fun. Include it in our visit to Budapest if you can.
You can take the HEV suburban train from the Batthany ter station (on the #2 [red) Metro line) to Szentendre. It is the end station on the line, so look for the trains going all the way to Szentendre. |

MalenaN Sun Feb 5, 2006 09:14 UTC I plan to visit Szentendre on a daytrip from Budapest in a few weeks. It looks like a lovely town! | csutiluca Thu Oct 21, 2004 10:29 UTC Great - very nice pics | Skeptic-jr Mon May 31, 2004 22:36 UTC Strange... - everyone complains that Szentendre is too crowded with tourist, and when I was were (in the summer!) its streets was almost empty. Nonetheless - you have here nice pix as the town is nice. |
