I never knew how I'd feel... It was about five minutes after driving across the Switzerland/Italy border that I realized that I belonged in Italy. Just barely on Italian soil, and miles away from any country that I had ever been before, I knew I was home- a home that I was being introduced to for the first time.
I was only able to spend a week in Italy; it was a quick tour from Venice down to Tuscany, and lastly to Rome. But that short week has changed me forever. I'm an Italian (I just never knew it!). I can't wait to go back and spend months on end in each region. I plan to rent an apartment in Venice, do nothing for days in the hilltowns of Tuscany, help out in the olive harvest in Umbria, walk all around Rome (with a panini and gelato in hand), and finally, get so lost and so dizzy on the roads through the Amalfi region that I won't possibly be able to leave! ...Now to be able to afford all of that... |
