It's always changing I've been visiting London as a tourist for 20-plus years. In many ways it is a different city now than when I made my first visits, but it is still wonderful. London has something for everyone. I don't care if your budget fits around a ritzy hotel in Kensington, or merely a youth hostel way out in east end somewhere, you can have an enjoyable vacation in London. There is so much to see and do. The tube and bus systems are so dependable. And, these days, you can find a tremendous variety of foods from all corners of the world served in London restaurants. Some of the worlds best art can be seen for free. There are also outstanding free natural history and historical museums. You never have to walk more than a few blocks in central London before seeing something you've read about or studied in a history class in school. The west end and its theater district offers great live theater at a fraction of the prices in New York. And the beer! I love English beer -- those rich, malty ales and stouts. And pub food -- steak and onion pies, fish & chips, etc. -- you can eat hearty for not much money, especially if you patronize pubs in the outlying neighborhoods instead of in the central districts overrun by tourists. |
