I was placed in Gorkha to teach English by my gap year company, and I fell in love with the place. It's got this incredible feeling of history; go up into the streets of the old town and you'll see what I mean. The people there are incredible- there are many ex-Gurkha soldiers; one of the highest honours the people of this region can attain.
I spent three months in Gorkha itself, plus nine days trekking in the area to the north (a much shortened version of the Manaslu trek). If you can trek round here, it's worthwhile- we saw no other tourists for nine days. I'm returning to Gorkha some time in the next few months... I only wish it was sooner!
- In a nutshell:This is Nepal; not at it's purest, but at it's most real. Enjoy.
