My husband and I traveled first to Switzerland in Sept. 2002 and returned in Sept. 2004 because we had such a great time the on our first visit.
One of the wonderful things about Switzerland is that you can have a base in a city (we chose, Bern, Lausanne, Lucern, Lugano and Interlaken) and then take day trips to mountains, lakes, etc. So you get city and adventure experiences. AND, the railroad system is great.
We feel very comfortable in Switzerland, even though we have little to no knowledge of German and a few phrases in French (I self-studied before our last trip adn this made me feel more self-confident when asking for help or directions or food items, etc.)). We met people from all over on our train travel (a native from Zurich, Welsh women on our lake Geneva boat ride, a gentleman from Manchester, etc.)
A small, lovely country. |
