My Favourite Camping Spot!

The faithful camper trailer
We go to Iluka, or more to the point, the Woody Head camping area in Bundjalung National Park at least twice a year.

It is a beautiful place. The stretch of national parks and world heritage rainforest in this area have created a several hundred kilometre long corridor in northern NSW.

One of the big advantages to Woody Head is its volcanic formation. This has created a natural rock platform that juts out into the sea. It fills with water at high tide and makes for great rock pool discovery sessions with the kids.

But for the fishermen, it is a huge bonus. The platform has formed a big drop off that attracts all manner of fish, especially snapper in the winter months. Remember, all the dangers inherent to rock fishing are present so be sure to take the usual precautions like rock hopper sandals and wet weather gear. Plus you will need at least a 10 foot rod.
The missus and her car on 10 Mile Beach
There is also a really nice sand beach you can drive up at Shark Bay just up the road about 2 kilomteres. It is called 10 Mile Beach and runs from Shark Bay to Black Rocks, which also has a campground but with no facilities except a pit toilet.

Fishing along this beach s pretty good too. Lots of tailor and bream in the winter and whiting in the summer. Find a good beach gutter, toss a line and try it out!
One of the simple pleasures of camping is a roast in the camp oven.

Just get a cast iron camp oven, put a shovel full of coals underneath and a couple on top and wait. In here is is a size 22 chicken and heaps of roast vegies.
