General Tips: Take Snacks to Caracol!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Make sure to take some snacks and lots of water with you before you head out on your 3-hr drive to Caracol. There was one place we found along the way to get soft drinks, but they didn't have water. Plus, there is a nice little covered picnic area at the entrance to Caracol where you can have a snack before or after you explore.

Fondest Memory: The picnic area even had several hammocks hanging up where you could rest a bit after your exploring of the Caracol city!

General Tips: Cool your feet in Rio on Pools!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: After our 3-hr trip to Caracol, lots of walking up stairs and hiking around the Mayan city at Caracol, then another hour and a half drive back up the bumpy road, we stopped for a refreshing cool-down at Rio-on-Pools.

Fondest Memory: There was a short walk from the main road to the pools... and then you see the pools and it is wonderful!! Sit and take your shoes and socks off and wash your feet off in the refreshing water of the pools!

  • El Pilar - Good Value!

  • Favorite Thing: El Pilar is a great place to visit! The entry fee is only $5 Belize dollars (about $2.50 US). It is also easy to get to and is only 12 miles northwest of San Ignacio, via Bullet Tree Road (although it's a bit bumpy).

Fondest Memory: I loved exploring El Pilar and venturing in to all it's nooks and crannies! See my travelogue for pictures!

General Tips: Take a Hammock Rest!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Most of the places we visited had a few hammocks! Make sure you take a little rest if you see an available hammock!

People were friendly everywhere we went! And I liked that they promote napping in hammocks!

Fondest Memory: This hammock was in El Pilar on the little trail across the road from the main city. The whole place was not crowded at all, so we got to relax here where the hammock was for a bit, undisturbed.

Lots of very useful information here on the Cayo District! A dip in the cool and refreshing river waters sounds like a great idea to me after a day of exertion in the Tropics! Great T'logues too!
