My husband took a long weekend up to the Gold Coast and were trying to find a central, inexpensive place to stay. The Mermaid Waters Hotel was a good option. We found a good deal at quickbeds.com where we got the room for $79/night rather than the listed price of $145. There was a 3 night minimum to get this price, but that was perfect since we were staying 3 nights anyway!
Mermaid Beach is right in the middle of the Gold Coast... Quick, easy trip up the Gold Coast Hwy to Surfers Paradise or down to Burleigh Heads or even in to NSW. Also, easy distance to the national parks to the west.
The hotel was being renovated and definitely wasn't luxury, but the bathroom had recently been redone and everything was clean, so it suited us fine. :)
Unique Qualities: Little kitchenette with a fridge and an extra twin bed for my hubby to lay on to watch tv. :)
