Bosnia and Hercegovina a Former War Torn Country

More to see then just .............

A longing for better times
Bosnia and Hercegovina (BiH) is a great place to travel and experience. There is no other place in Europe where you can experience first hand the effects and devestation of war. Although my page has a lot of focus on the effects of war in BiH it is a place that offers awesome cafes, restaurants and cultural experiences. This former republic of Yugoslavia declared its independance in 1991 but not with out much pain and suffering in the following years. Serbian nationalist declared a "greater Serbia" under the command of Slobodan Milosevic. This started the seige and ethnic cleansing in BiH, including the 3 year seige of Sarajevo. Mostar was also hit hard when Croats laid seige to the muslim quarter of Mostar and heavy fighting broke out. The scars of war are still visible in Mostar, in fact much of the city is in disrepair. Having said that Mostar is a lovely little town with great cafes serving fabulous turkish style coffee. The Turkish influence goes a lot further than the coffee, there are great little shops and the city has many mosques which call out the 5 times daily call to prayer. All this mixed in with the European influence make BiH and particularily Mostar an interesting place to experience.

Your Mostar pics are nice in B&W and you're right about BiH. More people should come here and see what there is to see.
