Situated on the 'sunny side of the Alps'. Tucked in a mountainous corner between the Adriatic sea, Hungary, Austria and Italy - the 'green piece of Europe' with warm summers and snowy winters. This was my first visit to Slovenia - returned the following year to Bohinj |
| | Bled Bled itself is a small town but has most things you need for your stay. There is a resasonably sized supermarket were you can get everything you need for a packed lunch for under a pound. There are the usual gift shops (I succumbed to purchasing a cowbell!!) Bled also has several cash machines - a necessity as it is virtually impossible to get Tolars in England
There is also a free Internet access point near the Hotel Park where you can check emails etc. |
| | It is easy to get around Bled by foot but horse drawn carriages are also available and to cross to the island, you can take a ride on a pletna - Bleds equivalent of a gondola.
Bled Island in the middle of the lake is the only true island in Slovenia and on the centre of the island is the small Church Of The Assumption with the "Bell Of Wishes", apparently if you ring this bell your wish will be granted Unfortunately we did not have time to get over to the island There is a good mix of age ranges and nationalities amongst the tourists in Bled although those looking for hectic nightlife should look elsewhere |
