My main memory of Riga was how cold the place was.
Admittedly I did visit near the end of the year when you would expect the temperature to dip a fair bit!
At the time I think the weather clouded my judgment of the area and in retrospect it is a very nice part of the world, I just think I would have appreciated it more in the summer - as it was I rushed round the sights at break neck speed trying to keep warm.
Sadly, Riga has been in the news recently.
The cheaper flights to Latvia has meant and influx drink fueled stag nights which haven't amused the locals.
When I went there were groups of people 'hanging around' but it was never to loud or rowdy.
I just hope the old fashioned atmosphere of the place hasn't been spoilt.
Perhaps the news stories are an over exaggeration, perhaps once the novelty wears off the party goers will move elsewhere.
If you are looking for a reasonably priced weekend away, you can do worse than Riga.....just go when its a bit warmer!
