Tim Horton's: Morning Cuppa

  • Restaurant Name: Tim Horton's

Although I will write more about the experience later in customs, when it comes to a morning stop off to get you going in Toronto, Tim Horton's is a must. Not only is this iconic Canadian coffee shop delicious, people go out of their way to get here.

I enjoyed the breakfast sandwich, a cup of coffee with cinnamon in it, and a breakfast desert doughnut. The breakfast sandwich was decent, not the best I have had, but better than a Egg McMuffin at the golden arches, and moderately priced. The doughnut was delicious, and next time I would just go with it. I had standard frosted with chocolate icing. As for the coffee, it was a nice cup of joe! The cinnamon added a little kick to it, but it could have stood on its own two feet in my opinion!

    Favorite Dish: Definitely the doughnut!

Quail and Firkin Pub: A Firkin Good time
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Restaurant Name: Quail and Firkin Pub

One of my close friends from my time in Australia transferred to Toronto, so I trusted his judgement when he said he knew of a good pub.

During my exploration of Toronto, I came to one conclusion. Canada is not good at making beer. Hockey, curling, ice fishing... all things Canada excels at... beer... not so much. Sad is the day when you walk into a pub, and ask the bartender for a pint of the best local stuff she has, and she offers you a heneiken. Heneiken is not made in Toronto, and her response was... well its better than anything local, trust me!

The food at the Firkin however more than made up for the lack of local beer taste. The curry was as close as I have come to the Indian neighborhoods of London, and the bar chicken wings were cheap and tasty. Several of my Canadian friends tried the puteen, but would not share.

Overall, the atmosphere was good, the imported beer was lovely, and the food was worth it.

    Favorite Dish: The Chicken Wings!

I don't blame you for being peeved at the Sheraton for their parking rules! Great tips on Tim Horton's, spot on. I recently learned that the actual tallest structure is the Petronius oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico (but its not on 'land')!

Hope you enjoyed Toronto. My wife and I (both travellers) got married in Cyprus. Check out our pages, both VT and external. It was an amazing adventure and a great start to our life together.... All the best
