  • If you are starting your trip by landing in Melbourne, you may want to head Northwest from the airport rather than Southeast into the City.

This is the direction you want to head if you are interested in visiting the Macedon Ranges and Spa Country.

This part of Victoria's geography consists of rolling hills and small historic towns with an interesting range of activities from wineries to bed and breakfasts.

Some of the small towns in this area that are worth a visit are:

    Bacchus Marsh
    Ballan
    Blackwood
    Daylesford
    Gisborne
    Hepburn Springs
    Kilmore
    Kyneton
    Lancefield
    Malmsbury
    Melton
    Mount Macedon
    Romsey
    Sunbury
    Trentham
    Woodend

Things To Do: Shepparton - Art Galleries from the country

  • Although I was only in Shepparton for the afternoon, I was able to pop into the Shepparton Art Gallery for a few minutes.

On the ground floor the gallery has a permanent exhibition of Australian ceramics, and the upper floor has a collection of Australian painting and works on paper.

There are also two dedicated temporary exhibition spaces, one which presents a program of exhibitions that range between International and contemporary Australian art.

Things To Do: Enjoy a Torquay Sunset!
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you are venturing off to the Great Ocean Road, or just headed to the World Famous Bell's Beach, one of your stops will most likely be in Torquay. It may look familiar to some of you, because some shots from the movie "Point Break" were filmed here.

During a recent business trip, I found myself at this beautiful beach around sunset... a great time to grab a photo of the cliffs with a nice background.

Really too bad it was cloudy, or this shot would have been great.

Things To Do: Spend a day on Phillip Island
  • Tip Rating:
  • State of Victoria - View from Phillip Island
  • View from Phillip Island
  • by ATXtraveler

  • On your next trip to Victoria, I would definitely recommend you take some time and spend it on Phillip Island. It really has alot to offer.

Beautiful Rock Formations like Pyramid Rock, the Nobbies, and the BlowHole.

Penguins on Parade is worth a couple hours of your time around sunset, and a live koala habitat and kangaroo range are also here.

There are also plenty of beaches to sit and relax, just don't plan to don your swimsuit in the winter time, as there is nothing stopping those Antarctic winds from hitting the beach!

For more information, check out my Phillip Island Page!

Things To Do: Lorne - The Start of the Great Ocean Road
  • Tip Rating:
  • State of Victoria - Aireys Inlet Lighthouse

  • When you are looking forward to your trip to Victoria, one of the major things you should put on your list is to tour the Great Ocean Road. The Great Ocean Road actually starts just outside of Lorne, a small little community on the eastern side of the Shipwreck Coast.

Lorne has some great little cafes, as well as a well groomed beach that is one of the safer places for kids to swim along this route.

For more information, check out my Lorne site on the link below.

Things To Do: A Whale of a Good time in Warrnambool!
  • Tip Rating:
  • State of Victoria - Whale Nursery Platform
  • Whale Nursery Platform
  • by ATXtraveler
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • If you are headed to Victoria, one of the interesting spots to go is Warrnambool to see the Whale Nursery. There is a great viewing platform, but make sure that you bring some binoculars. The whales spout during the winter months, and the calving season sure is an event to be seen!

Also, if you are photographer, make sure you bring a pretty good zoom lens, because I was not able to get very good pictures.

Warrnambool is located at the western end of the Great Ocean Road, so you will have plenty of activities to do before and after your time watching the whales!

For more information on the sights and sounds of Warrnambool, check out my page on the link below!

Things To Do: Head out to Spa Country - Daylesford/Hepburn
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Every vacation needs a little bit of rest and relaxation, even if you like to do and see as much as you can when you go on holiday.

If you are headed to Victoria, and are looking for a small day trip to sit down, relax and enjoy the sights sounds and smells of relaxation, then your only choice is to head out to Hepburn Springs/ Daylesford. Sarah and I went up for a VT meet weekend, and really enjoyed the time we spent there thanks to our wonderful host, Anne12.

If you do not get the pleasure of Anne's company, then I would definitely recommend a cup of coffee on Lake Daylesford to start the day, followed by a visit to the Convent Gallery and then on to Lavendula, Hepburn Springs' Lavender Farm.
