Beware of Pickpockets! - New Orleans

Beware of Pickpockets!

Pickpockets Vacation Holiday Pickpockets Review

I would definitely warn anyone going to a festival in New Orleans to take heed....

Pickpockets are out there and in force during this celebration. I was speaking to one of the New Orleans Police Officers that actually mentioned that pickpockets from all of the world take their vacations in New Orleans, since this is such easy "picking".

Make sure you only bring one credit card, your ID, and the spending cash you are willing to part with during this week.

Enjoy, and make sure you walk with your hands by your sides like this gentleman.

Drunk guy on Bourbon Street - New Orleans

Drunk guy on Bourbon Street

People Passing out on the Streets Drinking Review

Thanks to the efforts of enterprising alcohol sales people, many people end up down and out on the streets of the French Quarter. As reminded in an earlier tip, I mentioned that the drinks here are made with grain alcohol and can really knock you for a loop.

This young man is not having the best time at Mardi Gras thanks to his ability to not say no to all the excess alcohol.

Drink Safely and enjoy your Mardi Gras!

Watchout for Beads! - New Orleans

Watchout for Beads!

The Sky is Falling! Mardi Gras Review

Nope, those are just beads coming down from the balconies above the streets in the French Quarter.

In the decadent style of New Orleans, beads are the currency that will get you almost anything you need. I have seen them traded for flashing, beer, money, and all sorts of other activities.

Here in the picture, Jason and party goers look up to see who threw the beads down from the balcony as they were blindsided!!

Baylor Rugby! - New Orleans

Baylor Rugby!

Beware of Intoxicated Rugby Players Drinking Review

One of the things most dreadful when it comes to a great evening out is running into a group of intoxicated rugby players. Any person who regularly goes out onto a field with no pads on in a game in which 15 people are out to tackle him is clearly a glutton for punishment. Mix this with an innane desire to sing songs and drink alcohol and you have a recipe for disaster!

Beware of your surroundings and do not let drunk rugby players come up from behind!

Jason and his first hand grenade! - New Orleans

Jason and his first hand grenade!

Watch out for Grenades! Drinking Review

As you can see in the picture here, Jason is just entering the Hand Grenade zone for the evening, with little or no hope of returning sober.

Most mixed drinks in New Orleans skip the weak ingredients and go straight for the grain alcohols, which normally are 200 proof, or roughly the same potency of rubbing alcohol. Since they are mixed in with other flavors and liquids, the harsh alcohol is normally blended into a nice drink, but the fact remains... you will become intoxicated!

Enjoy your Mardi Gras, but be safe!

Louisiana Police - New Orleans

Louisiana Police

Louisiana Police! Driving Review

There has been a reputation going around for quite some time that the police in Louisiana are not always on the up and up. Most of this rumor really comes from the fact that during Mardi Gras, you have alot of people committing petty crimes and some of the officers are reserves or temporary police staff. If you mix the two, sometimes you wind up with people paying their way out of fines or whatnot.

I would however warn you that you should definitely watch your speed when you are travelling to and from New Orleans... the officers like to hide on the highway and catch you when you least expect it!

Slow down, and have a safe Mardi Gras!
