Aswan is one of the key cities to Egypt's livelyhood. It is the location of their High Dam, which keeps the mighty Nile from flooding every year, thus allowing the farmers throughout Egypt to have several crop growing seasons per year instead of just one.
Aswan is also the capital of Upper Egypt (Upper Egypt referring to the South of Egypt, because the Nile runs from South to North). |

volopolo Sat Mar 8, 2008 12:00 UTC Lovely page and pictures. volopolo | PA2AKgirl Thu May 3, 2007 20:14 UTC I miss this part of the world. Good page & it's really too bad that other people ruined the chance for you to visit the mausoleum. I think that's the way a few Turkish sites are going to end up--there was obvious disrespect in some places. | uglyscot Wed Apr 5, 2006 07:50 UTC Excellent page of one of the most beautiful places in Egypt. Thanks for the memories. | hindu1936 Wed Feb 15, 2006 14:04 UTC Thank you for reminding us to take care of the opportunity to view things--it is a privilege, not a right. As the widow of Aga Khan showed, the privilege can be revoked. |
