The entry point to Upper Egypt

by ATXtraveler - last update: May 24, 2004

Welcome to Aswan!

Aswan is one of the key cities to Egypt's livelyhood. It is the location of their High Dam, which keeps the mighty Nile from flooding every year, thus allowing the farmers throughout Egypt to have several crop growing seasons per year instead of just one.

Aswan is also the capital of Upper Egypt (Upper Egypt referring to the South of Egypt, because the Nile runs from South to North).

I miss this part of the world. Good page & it's really too bad that other people ruined the chance for you to visit the mausoleum. I think that's the way a few Turkish sites are going to end up--there was obvious disrespect in some places.

Excellent page of one of the most beautiful places in Egypt. Thanks for the memories.

Thank you for reminding us to take care of the opportunity to view things--it is a privilege, not a right. As the widow of Aga Khan showed, the privilege can be revoked.
