Transportation: Cairo International Airport

    Category: Airplane
Getting TO/AROUND: When you are headed to Giza, you will have to land in Cairo, its nearest airport, and also the main international airport for Egypt.

Sarah and I were on the Egyptian flight in from JFK, only to find out later that she had loaded our Black and White film in her camera at the time.... here is our first picture taken on Egyptian soil!!

    Transportation: Pyramids via Tour Bus
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': TO,AROUND
    Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: Although I am always an advocate of exploring using your feet, the sheer magnitude of the complex leads you to need some sort of transportation. I would highly recommend utilizing the tour bus you take to get to the pyramids to drive you between each of the other pyramids and then onto the sphinx.

    Remember your water!!

Getting TO/AROUND: Although I have mentioned this mode of transportation under warnings and dangers, and also under tourist traps, I do want to mention that this is a viable mode of transportation. The camel is a wonderful way to experience the pyramids from your most unique perspective. Think back to hundreds of years ago, when this was the primary method of transportation.

The key to utilizing this mode of transportation is to ask your tour guide which camel riders have agreements with those tour operators to not require additional money to let you off the camel. This will ensure you do not end up paying too much money to get down.

Oh yes the baksheesh; that's what you do not have to give, but obligatory. By the way, camels are not the winner of the animal beauty contest, so you do not need to take any photo. Thanks for visiting my Cairo. Best. Laszlo

Thanks for bringing back some memories of our visit here years ago - including unfortunately the harrassment from the camel owners ;-(

Wow! You and Sarah are also well-travelled. That is one impressive travel page. Love your tips on the Pyramids of Giza. This is at the top of my wish list for sure. I wonder if the camel owners here were related to the ones we came across in Tangiers!!!
