Airways / Airports: Fly over Sydney
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Airplane
Getting TO/AROUND: If you are headed to Sydney, your best bet is to check out Qantas. Qantas is by far the most popular airline in Australia, and it is disguinshed by its Red tailed airplanes with a kangaroo on it. Qantas is known as a "redtail" when being referred to by locals, and will get you from Los Angeles to Sydney. For more information on flights and schedules, check out their website.

Here is our first view of Australia... definitely not our last!

Ferry / Jet Cat / River Cat: Sydney to Manly Jetcat
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': TO,AROUND
    Category: Ship/Boat
Getting TO/AROUND: Most of Sydney is accessible by walking, however if you want to really get some great views (at an inexpensive price none the less), I would recommend that you take a Jetcat out in the Sydney harbour. For roughly 7 dollars each way, you can get a great water based view of the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, and all of the beautiful beach side communities.

If you are looking to make a nice evening of it, take the sunset ferry over to Manly, where you can enjoy an evening meal on the beach watching the waves.

The first of the day is at 6am and goes until and goes until 11pm.

General in Sydney Advice: Circular Quay - Sydney's Transportation Hub
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Other
Getting TO/AROUND: If you are thinking about seeing all that Sydney has to offer, my recommendation would be to base yourself somewhere very close to Circular Quay. Not only is it located centrally within Sydney's CBD, but it also has most of the available transportation forms around the city.

Circular Quay is the location where the Sydney ferries and jetcats launch from, as well as a main stop for the subway/train system. It also has a major bus depot.

Circular Quay is also located centrally in between the Rocks and the Opera House, so it makes an ideal place to enjoy a day walking around!

    Transportation: Sydney Overseas Passenger Terminal
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Ship/Boat
Getting TO/AROUND: If cruising is your scene, then the best place to start and end a journey in Sydney is at the Overseas Terminal. There are several great restaurants located here in the terminal itself, including Wildfire and also Doyles. It is also located just a short walk away from Circular Quay.

Holland America, P&O, Princess, and Radisson cruise lines all operate out of this location, so the best bet is to check with your favorite cruiseline to get the right time of a ship!

Taxis / Water Taxis: Yacht on in...
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Ship/Boat
Getting TO/AROUND: Sydney is truly an international port, as evidenced by the boat in this picture. This yacht is from the Cayman Islands, on the Caribbean all the way around the world from Sydney Harbour. Chances are however that the person in this boat is surely able to afford the trip around the world!

Maybe someday I will be that lucky.... but for now, I will just enjoy the beautiful view of the harbour with the Opera House in the background.

If you would like more information on how you can yacht into Sydney Harbour, I would recommend checking out the site below from the Middle Harbour Yacht Club!

Buses: Sydney Tour Hop On Hop Off Bus
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: One of the best ways to see Sydney and Bondi is with a 24 hour ticket aboard an open-top double-decker bus. See all the main sights as you hop on and hop off the tour bus at 30 stops around the city. You can spend as much at the main places of interest before jumping aboard for the next stop.

Each ticket is AUD 36 for 24 hours, which means you can almost get two days worth of action out of it.

Also, one of the features is the fact that there is recorded commentary in Spanish, English, French, German, Japanese and Mandarin.

Departure Time: September to March 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday every 30 minutes. Saturday and Sunday every 20 minutes.

    April to August
9:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday every 30 minutes. Saturday and Sunday every 20 minutes.

Taxis / Water Taxis: Taxis Combined Services
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': TO,AROUND
    Category: Car/Motor Home
Getting TO/AROUND: When travelling in most countries, you have to plan each individual city's itinerary specifically to make sure you have the local taxi number for each place you are doing. Not so in Australia, where there are national numbers associated with various services. In particular, the taxis have combined into a central number system, so you can easily call one number and get a cab in most of the major cities!

Transportation: Cruise in to Sydney Harbour
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Ship/Boat
Getting TO/AROUND: One of the more popular ways to visit Australia is on the cruise ships. This will allow you to see multiple different cities, including Sydney. Since a large number of ships depart from Sydney, this is a great opportunity to tack a couple of days onto a trip out here.

P&O Cruises are a popular cruise line based out of Sydney, but by far not the only game in town. We personally sailed on a P&O cruise in Singapore, and it was far inferior to many cruise ships in the US, but on a high note, it was at least more expensive.

Many of the cruises depart from the Overseas Cruise Terminal, which is located within easy walking distance of Circular Quay.

Enjoy hopping on a cruise and enjoying Sydney!

The best place for prawns in Sydney is over at the fish market. The biggest and best tasting I've ever had. Quite a nice page of one of my favorite cities.
