The first city down under for us It has been a long and hectic couple of months for Sarah and I! We were recently married, honeymooned in Tahiti and her islands, and then I shipped us off halfway around the world to Australia! Although our final destination for these two years is Melbourne, Sarah and I had the opportunity to stay in Sydney for the better part of two weeks. Although there was so much to do in that time period, and I did have to work a couple of those days, we were able to get quite a bit of the "tourist" lifestyle in along the way.
Sydney has a long aboriginal history dating back 50,000 years, and there is quite a bit of influence in the area in the naming of different suburbs. The city itself however got its start as a Penal Colony for the British in 1788 (mysteriously right after a bunch of convicts from a different land threw a bunch of tea boxes into a harbour in Boston). Over the next 220 years, Sydney has gone from a prison colony to the modern international city that I hope to present in my tips... Enjoy the Journey! |
