Moorish Kiosk - Schloß Linderhof

Moorish Kiosk

Moorish Kiosk

This piece of Moorish Architecture was built in 1867 by the Prussians for the World Exhibition in Paris. After the Exhibition, the piece went up for sale, where in 1870 it was bid on by Henry Strousberg a famous railroad magnate of the time and King Ludwig. A few years later, Strousberg went backrupt and Ludwig was able to purchase this from him. It was rebuilt on the grounds of Linderhof in 1876.

Neptunes Fountain - Schloß Linderhof

Neptunes Fountain

Neptune's Fountain

King Ludwig had an affinity for history, and particularly Greek history.

On the pathway rising towards the Hennenkopf flows an artificial waterfall with stone figures symbolizing the four continents at either end. At the bottom of the cascade is a pool with a statue of Neptune spouting water and a flowerbed in the shape of a Bourbon lily.

Venus Grotto - Schloß Linderhof

Venus Grotto

Beautiful View up to the Venus Grotto

Keeping with his interest in Greek mythology and as a tribute to Wagner's musical dramas, Ludwig created the Venus Grotto, a tribute to the Greek God Venus. Most would consider this portion of the castle its most beautiful point, and from looking at this picture I would have to agree with them.

This was a wonderful site to sit and enjoy everything that was lavish about Ludwigs lifestyle!

Schloss Linderhof - Schloß Linderhof

Schloss Linderhof

Ludwig's Castle

Located in the Bavaria Alps, King Ludwig II's only castle to be completed in his lifetime is Schloss Linderhof. The closest major city to this castle is Munich, and it is a fair drive away.

It really is amazing to see the detail of each portion of this castle, and the exterior was absolutely beautiful!

I was really sad to see that this castle was closed when we went to Germany, however hopefully next time we will be able to see it in person from the inside!
