Honiara | On the veranda of Chester Rest House |
Honiara, on the island of Guadalcanal is the capital and gateway to everywhere else, but try to get off this island. A good start is Maravagi Resort on Gela, about 2 hours by fast boat. Honiara can be dry and dusty or wet and muddy, but has beautiful views. |
| | Lau Lagoon, Malaita My favourite place in all the world. The only problem is getting there, by local boat. |
| The wharf at Lata, Santa Cruz |
| | Temotu Province Santa Cruz is accessible by plane once a week, It has a beautiful harbour, and from here you can get an outboard, 3 hours over open ocean, to the Reef Islands. There is a resort on Pigeon Island, and Rest Houses at Lata, Santa Cruz. |
| Village water supply, spoilt by logging |
| | Makira Beautiful, and very unspoiled, but at risk from foreign loggers. Try "Fresh Winds" or the Diocesan Rest House in Kira Kira |

Instead I find myself in Maldives, where I took another offer! Look forward to reading about the SOlomon islands from your pages though! :o) | dsantosh Tue Feb 3, 2004 11:55 UTC Helen welcome to VT.
